Lasso Safe Talks host, Pamela Minix is a former professional athlete and survivor of sports abuse. Just days after the release of the Commission on the State of U.S. Olympics and Paralympics, Pamela sits down with U.S. Center for SafeSport CEO Ju’Riese Colon to discuss the recommendations and the Center’s latest culture and climate survey.
Recognizing the Center’s opportunity for growth as highlighted in the commission’s report, Pamela and Ju’Riese talk about the importance for the sport community to rise above the polarization that is a product of misconduct and abuse.
The Center’s culture and climate survey verified the importance of cultivating and supporting the athlete’s voice. Less than 10% of athletes who experience sexual misconduct ever report the abuse. This is more than 20% lower than the national average. From grass roots to governing bodies, leaders must unite as a powerful force for athlete wellness and safety. Tune into Lasso Safe Talks to hear Pamela and Ju’Riese invite sport leaders to come together and overcome the unique barriers of athletes’ culture. We can all help ensure higher reporting outcomes and fewer occurrences.
